Friday the 13th Date Finder
Pick a year range and the tool lists every Friday the 13th inside it using the Gregorian calendar, plus how many days remain until the next one from today. Every Gregorian year contains at least 1 and at most 3 Friday the 13ths — the maximum occurs when Jan 1 falls on a Sunday (leap year) or a Thursday (common year).

Formula
weekday = Gregorian Sakamoto algorithm; keep dates where day = 13 and weekday = Friday.
- · In the Gregorian calendar the 13th of the month falls on a Friday slightly more often than on any other weekday — Brown (1933) showed that across a 400-year cycle the 13th lands on Friday 688 times, versus 685–687 for Mon–Thu.
- · Every Gregorian year has at least 1 and at most 3 Friday the 13ths. Three only happens for specific January-1 weekdays (common year starting Thu → Feb / Mar / Nov; leap year starting Sun → Jan / Apr / Jul).
- · "Fear of Friday the 13th" is technically called paraskevidekatriaphobia; fear of the number 13 alone is triskaidekaphobia. Neither has firm clinical-diagnosis status — both are largely cultural superstitions.
- · Dates use the ISO 8601 Gregorian calendar (Friday = ISO weekday 5). Years before 1582 are computed proleptically; historically many regions still used the Julian calendar at that time.
- · The range is capped at 200 years to keep the output readable — common ranges are the current year, the next decade, or "rest of the century".
Frequently asked
What is the maximum number of Friday the 13ths in a single year?
Maximum 3, minimum 1. Three occurs in two patterns: (1) a common year whose Jan 1 is a Thursday (e.g. 2026 has Feb, Mar, Nov); (2) a leap year whose Jan 1 is a Sunday (e.g. 2012 had Jan, Apr, Jul). Every Gregorian year is guaranteed at least one — with 12 months mapping to 7 possible weekdays, the pigeonhole principle forces at least one collision with Friday.
Why is Friday the 13th considered unlucky?
It is a fusion of two older superstitions: 13 evokes the 13 guests at the Last Supper (Judas being the 13th) in Christian tradition, and Friday is the day of the Crucifixion. The combination only became culturally widespread after Thomas Lawson's 1907 novel "Friday, the Thirteenth". Empirical studies disagree on whether anything actually happens — Roberts & Boruff (1991) found slightly more UK road accidents that day, but larger samples (e.g. Náñez, 2008) found no statistically significant effect.
What are the shortest and longest gaps between two Friday the 13ths?
Shortest gap: 28 days — February 13 to March 13 in a common year whose Jan 1 is a Thursday. Longest gap: about 14 months (426–427 days), usually spanning a full calendar year. Across a 28-year leap cycle the mean gap between consecutive Friday the 13ths is roughly 4.3 months, while the median is 7 months.
