Why do some months have several birthstones — which one is "correct"?
June (pearl / alexandrite / moonstone), August (peridot / spinel / sardonyx), October (opal / tourmaline), November (topaz / citrine) and December (tanzanite / turquoise / zircon) each list multiple stones because the official list was expanded in 1952, 2002 and 2016 to widen consumer choice. All are equally "correct" modern birthstones; the jewellery trade tends to lean on whichever stone is easiest to source and cut (citrine often replaces precious topaz for November, for example), so you can pick on budget and colour preference.
Can I use a birthstone as a healing crystal or feng-shui gemstone?
Birthstones are a Western jewellery-trade tradition; they are not the same as crystal-healing chakra stones, Vedic jyotish gems or feng-shui cure stones, each of which has its own theory and pairing rules (Vedic gems map to natal planets; feng-shui gems map to home directions). If your goal is gifting, anniversary mementos, themed jewellery or birthday-card design, the birthstone list is exactly what you want — for healing or astrological prescription, use the system-specific reference.
Should I give a partner their birthstone or stick to the wedding-anniversary gemstone?
They are complementary, not exclusive. The birthstone celebrates your partner personally (their birth month); the anniversary gemstone (e.g. silver at 25, ruby at 40, gold at 50) celebrates your shared years. A common compromise is a piece set with the birthstone as the centre stone and the anniversary gem as accent — or vice versa, leaving a small surprise for them to discover.
What is the difference between the Western birth flower and Chinese zodiac flowers?
The birth flowers here come from Victorian-era "floriography" and the US / UK florist tradition of pairing each Gregorian month with one primary plus one secondary flower; the symbolism is romantic and greeting-card oriented. China has its own "twelve flower deities" system (plum in month one, apricot in month two, etc.) and zodiac-aligned blooms, with different cultural meanings. The Western birth-flower table is the more practical one when ordering from a florist.
