Do I need to tip at restaurants in Hong Kong?
Usually not. If the bill already includes a 10% service charge, that covers gratuity. For exceptional service or at upscale hotel restaurants, an extra 5–10% is appreciated. No tipping is expected at cha chaan tengs or fast-food outlets.
Can I refuse to pay the 10% service charge?
Legally the “加一” service charge is not mandatory, provided it is clearly disclosed on the menu. You can ask the manager to remove it if service was poor — most venues will accommodate reasonable complaints.
How do we handle the leftover cents when splitting the bill?
Common approaches: round each share up to the nearest dollar (or $5) with one person absorbing the leftover, or settle the exact amount via PayMe / FPS. The calculator shows the precise share so you can round however you prefer.
